LiveFreeAndTrap.com seeks to support common-sense conservation and tried and true wildlife management practices while fighting to keep the activity of fur trapping relevant in an ever changing public demographic.
LiveFreeAndTrap.com is focused on public outreach to New Hampshire citizens in regards to the many positive benefits modern fur-trapping poses to the Northeast’s diverse landscape; as well as presenting, in detail, the integral role trapping plays on our unique ecosystem.
It is my mission to present you with a snapshot of modern fur trapping and all associated trades & activities revolving around trapping; such as seasonal fur trapping, biology and data collection, fur handling & usage, wildlife control, animal damage management, and overall wildlife species health and sustainability. Few conservationists champion wildlife and wild places more than the fur-trapper, and that is evident in our passion to see native furbearer populations continue to flourish for millennia to come.
Education and rational conversation are the only ways to combat the unfounded stigma that trapping is somehow obsolete, cruel, inhumane, or unnecessary. As trappers and stewards to the land we inhabit, we must not be shy about taking on the emotionally charged and sometimes extremely flawed arguments surrounding these trapping stigmas.
Let it be known, while this website features “how-to” subjects on the tools and techniques of modern trapping; LiveFreeAndTrap.com has been established with the ultimate goal of exploring the root principals behind the activity of trapping. As the human population presses onward into the digital age, videos and literature on how to trap have finally begun to catch up and expand in popularity. The moral and scientific motives behind these activities has been slightly slower to follow.
It’s one thing to be a fur trapper in 2017; it’s another to make clear and viable points to justify these activities. It is in the interest of LiveFreeAndTrap.com to present key points and theories on modern fur trapping’s immense importance. I believe it is important to know how to trap, but also equally as important to know why we trap. The primary mission of this website, above all else, is to solidify that importance.
It is my mission to use LiveFreeAndTrap.com as the proverbial sledgehammer to knock down the walls put in place by extremists and flawed rhetoric. Brick by brick and stone by stone, I intend to dismantle this wall put in place to divide the modern fur-trapper and the non-trapping public. LiveFreeAndTrap.com has been created to open a dialogue between trappers and non-trappers alike and to solidify and sanction the Northeast trapper’s place in modern wildlife conservation.
I encourage like-minded individuals to join me in celebration of modern fur-trapping, self-reliance, and the natural beauty of the United States of America we are ever so lucky to play an active role in maintaining.
